Diagnostic Questions

I’ve become very interested in diagnostic questions.  These are multiple choice questions where obviously one answer is correct but the other three incorrect questions have been derived from a common misconception, hence enabling the class teacher to diagnose issues in pupil understanding.

A website focused on this sort of questionning has been developed by Mr Barton (of Mr Barton maths fame).  There is a good discussion of what diagnostic questions are here.

I’m particularly interested in pupils investigating WHY the wrong answers are wrong – I’m a great believer in learning from mistakes – and them developing their own diagnostic questions to help deepen their understanding of a topic.

Hover over the Diagnostic Questions menu option and you will see a mini menu where I will post diagnostic questions I’ve developed and used.
