I can read your mind

As a change to revision resources I thought I’d share this resource I’ve used with a lower ability year 7 group.  It contains a number of mathematical ‘magic’ tricks.  I’m ultimately going to get pupils to create their own basic ‘magic trick’ akin to the first on the power-point – we are covering some basic algebra work and looking particularly at forming basic expressions.

The depth of understanding required to understand WHY each trick work varies – from very simple to much more challenging, so there is an opportunity here to delve a little deeper and be able to pitch particular ‘tricks’ to different ability groups.

However, we all like a nice hook to grab the students either at the start or the end of the lesson and these are pretty good for that also.

There are some basic notes on some of the notes pages as guidance.  For the grid one, I’ve also included a PDF with 4×4, 5×5 and 6×6 number grids if you want to use them.
